Deepavali in Singapore

Deepavali is a Hindu festival that marks the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. Come the first week of October, the streets of Little India are transformed into a wonderland of floral garlands, colourful arches, stacks of oil lamps in every shape and size imaginable, and stunning lights.

Deepavali brings back memories of our days in Oman when we’d receive plates of snacks and sweets from each of our neighbours. By the end of the day we would have a shelf full of goodies which we would then proceed to nibble on over the next few days.

I spent a couple of hours after work today soaking in the sights and sounds of the Deepavali festival village down Campbell Lane. It was a feast for my tired eyes.

Pretty street lights!

The festival of lights truly lives up to its name in Little India. The atmosphere in the Deepavali village and  market left me feeling so very festive and happy that I kept going back – thrice in two weeks to be precise.
